Fat Grafting
Overview
Summary
Fat Grafting Treatment Areas
Facial skin and tissue are prone to wrinkles and signs of aging caused by exposure to the elements, weight changes, and natural aging. For those seeking a more youthful appearance, fat grafting offers a low-risk, high-satisfaction alternative to commercial fillers. Our board-certified plastic surgeon can add subtle, natural volume to cheeks, forehead, chin, and other facial areas using healthy fat cells from your own body.
Fat transfer breast augmentation is a cosmetic procedure for women who want to enjoy slightly larger breasts without implants. During fat grafting or fat transfer breast surgery, our highly-skilled surgeons harvest fat cells using liposuction from the back, stomach, arms, or buttocks and inject the fat cells into your breasts.
Buttock augmentation through fat grafting (a.k.a. Brazilian Butt lift) is an increasingly popular procedure to help women achieve an hourglass shape or other ideal waist-to-hip ratio. Fat grafting involves liposuction to remove fat cells from other body areas (creating a slimmer appearance) and injecting it into the buttocks to achieve volume, shaping, and lift.
Like our faces, hands are susceptible to signs of aging after years of being exposed to the elements. Fat transfers or fat grafting can help fill out the appearance of aging hands and tighten sagging or wrinkled skin.
Using your body's natural fat cells to improve the appearance of scars and replace lost tissue is an increasingly popular option for those seeking reconstructive surgery following breast cancer treatment. Fat grafting can also improve scarring from accidents or injuries with the added benefit of reducing pain, itching, and discomfort.
Candidate for Fat Grafting?
To undergo fat grafting, it's necessary to have excess fat in one or more areas of the body so it can be harvested and transferred. Very thin people are not good candidates for fat grafting. Additionally, while the risk of complications and recovery time are minimal during fat grafting or fat transfers, ideal candidates are non-smokers in good general health.
Consultation
Consultations for fat grafting are available at all Plastic Surgery Center locations. The best surgical plan for you will depend on various personal and medical factors. With this in mind, our world-class surgeons will review your medical history and discuss your ideal surgical outcomes to make personalized recommendations. We can also provide simulated images of your desired results with computer-assisted technology.
Questions
about this procedure?
What to Expect
If your surgeon determines you are a good candidate for fat grafting body enhancement, the total time of your procedure will depend on the extent of tissue and augmentation involved. Local and topical anesthesia are typically used for fat grafting or fat transfer, with minimal risk of side effects.
Once the donor and recipient sites are numb, the surgeon will use a thin tube to suction fat cells from the donor site. Next, cells are cleaned, and healthy cells are separated and injected into the desired body area to shape and contour the area and achieve the desired result.
Recovery &
Results
Depending on your overall health and the amount of tissue and body area treated, fat grafting or fat transfer procedures often require little to no recovery time. Some patients experience redness, swelling, or bruising, which typically resolves within 48-72 hours. You will be encouraged to rest as needed and return to daily activities, work, and exercise as tolerated.
