Restore Comfort
and Aesthetics with Labiaplasty Surgery
Overview
Summary
Labiaplasty Treatments
Using the wedge technique, our skilled plastic surgeon will carefully remove a v-shaped "wedge" from the broadest part of the labia before bringing the two edges together and closing the incision using sutures.
During the trim technique, our skilled plastic surgeon will carefully remove a section of excess skin around the outer edge of the labia. The goal of this procedure is to reduce the protruding labia minora and improve physical appearance.
Candidate for Labiaplasty Surgery?
If the size or shape of your labia affects your self-confidence or interferes with your health and enjoyment of physical activities, you may be an ideal candidate for labiaplasty. Like all plastic surgeries, being in general good health (mentally and physically) and being a non-smoker is recommended before considering surgery. This procedure is not recommended if you are considering labial surgery to make a spouse or partner happy.
Consultation
Consultations for labiaplasty surgery are available at all Plastic Surgery Center locations. The best surgical plan for you will depend on various personal and medical factors. With this in mind, our world-class surgeons will review your medical history and discuss your ideal surgical outcomes to make personalized recommendations. We can also provide simulated images of your desired results with computer-assisted technology.

What to Expect
There are two standard surgical options for labiaplasty (though additional procedures, such as liposuction, fat injections, or vaginoplasty, may also be recommended):
- The wedge method involves a v-shaped "wedge" cut at the widest part of the labia, which is then pulled together and closed with sutures.
- The trim method involves "trimming" excess skin that is protruding at the edge of the labia.
Once the incisions are made, the surgeon will carefully reshape the labia and remove excess skin.
Typically, incisions are closed using buried, dissolvable stitches to minimize scarring and discomfort, and a sterile bandage is placed over the incisions.
Recovery &
Results
Each person's recovery from labiaplasty surgery will vary based on the extent of skin and tissue involved. You should plan to have a family member or friend drive you home. Pain and swelling can be managed with medication and ice in the first few days after surgery.
Most patients can resume regular activity within 2-3 weeks, after the initial swelling, soreness, and discoloration resolve. Strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for six weeks or longer. Most swelling is gone within six weeks, but it can take up to six months or longer to experience complete healing and see the final results.

Labiaplasty is typically not covered by insurance because it is considered a cosmetic procedure. However, in some cases where the labia causes pain, discomfort, or interferes with normal activities like exercise, sexual intercourse, or hygiene, labiaplasty may be deemed medically necessary, and coverage may be available through your provider.
