Reshape Your Contours: Liposuction Surgery Explained
Understanding Liposuction
You deserve to feel confident in your body. Many of our clients are frustrated by pockets of fat that have accumulated over time and don't respond to healthy lifestyle changes. Liposuction, or lipoplasty, can reshape and tone these problem areas with less discomfort and shorter recovery times than traditional plastic surgery, making it one of the more popular cosmetic surgery procedures we offer.
Our skilled plastic surgeons are trained in a variety of state-of-the-art techniques to remove excess fat and reshape the chin, neck, arms, stomach, bra roll, hips, buttocks, legs, or ankles. While it doesn't change your natural shape or remove excess skin, liposuction can improve skin elasticity, and body parts often appear "lifted" when the weight of fatty tissue is removed.
Summary
Types of Liposuction Treatments
Liposuction is most frequently used to remove fat from the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks. However, our surgeons can perform liposuction procedures for any area of concern, including the chin, neck, arms, bra roll, hips, legs, or ankles.
Suction-assisted, or “traditional” liposuction involves making a small incision and removing fatty tissue by inserting a cannula (thin, surgical tube) attached to a vacuum into the fat layer beneath the skin. The cannula is then moved around to break up fatty tissue, which is then suctioned out of the body.
Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL) uses a machine-powered cannula (tube) that produces small, rapid vibrations to break up fat, facilitating easier suction. PAL is particularly effective for treating areas that can be difficult to sculpt, like the belly button and inner thighs. Our plastic surgeons are highly skilled in this type of liposuction, which offers numerous benefits, including smaller incisions, more targeted fat removal, shorter procedure time, fewer complications, faster recovery, and smoother results.
Like laser-assisted liposuction, ultrasound (ultrasonic waves) can also liquefy fat before removing it from the body. Ultrasound liposuction can be targeted internally through a small incision or externally with a paddle-like tool that emits ultrasonic waves through the skin.
Radiofrequency-assisted liposuction is a minimally invasive option for targeted fat removal and impressive skin tightening. Using carefully placed electrodes, our highly-skilled surgeons can employ thermal energy to dissolve fat and promote collagen production for visibly younger-looking skin. Requiring only minimal incisions, this procedure can be performed under local anesthesia, reducing the risks of complications.
Candidate for Liposuction Surgery?
It’s important to have realistic expectations if you are considering liposuction to reduce undesirable areas of body fat. While some weight loss may occur, the primary goal is to improve visual appearance. You are likely a good candidate for liposuction if you have a healthy lifestyle and exercise regularly, with a few persistent problem areas. Clients who are at a stable weight before the procedure and maintain an active lifestyle enjoy the best long-term results.
Consultation
Our liposuction experts are available for consultations at all Plastic Surgery Center locations. During your initial visit, one of our highly-skilled surgeons will review your medical history and discuss your ideal outcomes to determine if you are a candidate. If liposuction is recommended, your procedure will be tailored specifically to suit your needs and to achieve your ideal body image. We can also provide a simulated image of your desired results with computer-assisted technology.

Liposuction: An Essential Guide to Surgery and Recovery
What to Expect
Depending on the liposuction procedure recommended for your desired outcome, our expert staff and physicians will provide detailed information about what you can expect before, during, and after a liposuction procedure.
Your surgeon will consider your health history, how much fat is being removed, and any previous or complementary procedures you want to have done to determine our best recommendations.
Recovery &
Results
Each person's healing process is unique. Your recovery following liposuction surgery will depend on the scope of treatment areas, how much fat is removed, and the type of anesthesia involved. By using state-of-the-art technology, we can reduce the amount of bruising and post-operative discomfort; however, recovery varies widely.
Immediately following surgery, you can expect to feel some soreness and tenderness, similar to the pain you would experience with bruising. Your surgeon will likely send you home with a compression garment or elastic bandage. It’s recommended that someone drive you home following your procedure and assist with care tasks as needed. Most clients return to work and regular activities within one - two weeks or sooner.
