Tighten and Refine with
Inner Thigh
Lift Surgery
Overview
Sagging, loose skin and cellulite around the thighs and hips are common challenges for those who have successfully lost weight or whose skin has lost elasticity due to weight fluctuations and natural aging. A thigh lift procedure is commonly performed to remove and tighten loose folds of skin on the upper leg following weight loss surgery.
Thigh lift surgery can also help you feel more comfortable in your clothing and achieve a more balanced, proportional appearance. Our plastic surgeons frequently combine thigh lift procedures with liposuction and other body-sculpting procedures to attain ideal outcomes.
Summary
Thigh Lift Treatments
The goal of inner thigh lift surgery, or thighplasty, is to remove excess skin from the inner thigh and reshape the upper leg for a more balanced and toned appearance. This is done by creating an incision along the inside of the thigh or inside the groin crease, excess skin is removed, and the surgeon lifts, tightens, and contours the remaining skin.
Also referred to as an outer thigh lift, a bilateral thigh lift involves the removal of skin and tissue removal from both the front and outside of the upper leg. This procedure typically begins with an incision inside the upper thigh near the groin and may extend up around the hip toward the lower back. Excess skin and tissue are removed, and the entire front and outside of the thighs are tightened and reshaped.
Medial thigh lift surgery is most commonly performed to remove sagging skin on the inner thighs following substantial weight loss. The surgeon will make an incision from your groin down toward your knee or the back of your thigh. After the excess skin is removed, the surgeon will lift and tighten the skin and reshape the upper thigh.
If the amount of skin and tissue being removed is relatively modest, you may be eligible for a mini thigh lift surgery. During this procedure, our highly-skilled surgeons create a single, relatively small incision in the groin, and a small area of skin and tissue in the inner-upper thigh can be targeted for toning and lift.
Candidate for Thigh Lift Surgery?
If you are a generally healthy person with sagging or stretched skin on your upper leg and hip area, thigh lift surgery may be a safe surgical solution. An inner or bilateral thigh lift is recommended for those with large areas of excess skin on the upper and inner thighs. Thigh lifts are not recommended for those who are trying to lose weight. Ideally, candidates for thigh lift surgery should be non-smokers who maintain a healthy, stable weight and have realistic expectations for the procedure.

Questions
about this procedure?
What to Expect
Our expert surgeons will recommend the thigh lift surgical plan best suited to your personal goals, your health history, and the amount of skin, tissue, and fat to be removed. Thigh lift surgery requires general anesthesia. The number, location, and length of incisions will be determined based on the recommended procedure.
Once the incisions are made, excess skin is removed, and the remaining skin is tightened and reshaped. Typically, our surgeons close incisions with buried, dissolvable stitches, reducing visible scars and increasing patient comfort. Small drain tubes may be placed to allow excess fluid that builds up where the tissue was removed during surgery.
Recovery &
Results
Rest is essential for healing, so be patient and allow your body time to heal.
Listen to your body and follow discharge instructions closely to help ensure the best long-term results and successful recovery.
Thigh lift surgery results are visible almost immediately, though it can take several months or longer to heal fully. Your surgical experience and recovery will vary based on the approach recommended by your physician. We recommend asking someone to drive you home and assist with personal care tasks for the first 1-2 days. Pain and swelling are typically highest for 2-3 days following surgery. Ice packs and compression bandages also help reduce swelling, promote healing, and improve comfort.
You may be sent home with surgical drain tubes in place, which can be uncomfortable. Proper care of the drain tubes will be explained before discharge and removed in the office during one of your post-operative visits. Over the next 1-3 weeks, soreness can usually be managed with rest and over-the-counter medication.
