While breast implant removal can help you feel more comfortable, some patients choose to pair explant surgery with breast correction procedures for improved shape and symmetry:

A breast explant journey begins with a thorough consultation to discuss your goals, medical history, and any concerns. Explant surgery is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes 1–3 hours, depending on the complexity. For patients with concerns about breast implant illness or significant capsular contracture, our surgeons often recommend an en bloc capsulectomy. This advanced technique removes the implant and surrounding scar tissue (capsule) as a single unit, minimizing the risk of contamination and ensuring thorough tissue removal. If you’ve chosen additional procedures, such as a breast lift, these will be performed at the same time.

Results

Your surgeon will provide detailed recovery instructions, including how to care for incisions and manage discomfort. In the days following surgery, you can expect mild swelling, bruising, and discomfort that will gradually improve. Most patients are able to return to light activities within 1-2 weeks, but strenuous exercise should be avoided for several weeks. Some patients report tenderness or soreness for up to 6 weeks.

Final results will improve as swelling subsides, revealing a more natural, refreshed appearance.
