Types of Breast Correction Surgery

Breast Augmentation

For women who are unhappy with the results of previous breast implants or the effects of surgical complications, corrective breast augmentation can help. Our surgeons are highly trained in methods to resolve even the most difficult challenges with misshapen breasts, asymmetry, or painful scar tissue. Corrective breast augmentation involves carefully removing the original implants, correcting any deformities, and replacing or repositioning the implant for a more natural look.

Breast Lift

Several factors impact the long-term results of breast lift surgery, including health-related issues, weight loss or weight gain, natural aging, and pregnancy. Changes in breast tissue and density can result in sagging skin and loss of elasticity over time. If you’re experiencing any of these issues, our surgeons can help you regain a youthful appearance and improved confidence through breast lift revision surgery.

Breast Reduction

While most women who undergo breast reduction surgery report being highly satisfied, there is always a possibility of complications or unintended outcomes. Some women who come to us from other practices feel their breasts were not reduced enough or reduced too much during their initial breast reduction surgery. Other times, you might seek corrective surgery to reduce the appearance of scars. Our highly-skilled physicians use various surgical techniques and procedures to correct these issues and restore body confidence.

Breast Asymmetry Correction

While breast asymmetry surgery is not uncommon, it can make clothes shopping and intimacy very stressful. This imbalance in breast height or size can happen naturally or as a complication of previous surgeries. Depending on the severity of your symptoms and desired results, your surgeon could recommend a corrective reshaping of the breasts or breast augmentation in one or more breasts to create a more balanced appearance.

Male Breast Reduction

Typically, breast reduction surgery offers our male patients the benefit of long-lasting relief from the physical and emotional discomfort of enlarged breasts (gynecomastia). There are some cases, however, when conditions such as hormone imbalance, significant weight gain, or certain medications can cause the growth of male breasts to recur. When this happens, a second surgical procedure might help you regain a flatter, firmer, more masculine chest profile.

Nipple Correction

Pregnancy and breastfeeding are beautiful, life-changing experiences for many women. But they aren't always easy on your body. If your childbearing years or genetic makeup have caused widened, stretched, inverted, or misshapen nipples, our board-certified surgeons offer various procedures to help resolve these issues. Enlarged nipples or oversized areolas (the darker area around the nipple) can be caused by genetics and hormone changes, too. The goal of nipple correction is to achieve a healthy nipple shape and size that complements the natural shape of your breast.

Am I a

Candidate for Breast Correction Surgery?

Do you suffer from breast pain or deformity caused by surgical complications, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or other health-related conditions? If so, then corrective breast surgery may be a helpful approach. Our expert surgeons are highly experienced in correcting surgical scarring, asymmetrical breasts, male gynecomastia, inverted or enlarged nipples, ruptured implants, and other breast issues. If you are a non-smoker and generally in good health, you are likely a good candidate for breast corrective surgery.

Consultation

Breast correction surgical consultations are available at all Plastic Surgery Center locations. The best surgical approach for you will depend on various personal and health-related factors. With this in mind, our surgeons will review your medical history and discuss your ideal surgical outcomes to make personalized surgical recommendations. Using computer-assisted photography, we can also provide sample imagery of your expected surgical results.

Questions
about this procedure?

What to Expect

Depending on your recommended surgical procedure and desired outcome, our expert staff and physicians will provide detailed information about what you can expect before, during, and after corrective breast surgery. Your surgeon will consider your health history, the amount of skin and breast tissue involved, and any previous scarring to determine our best corrective recommendations.

Once the incisions are made, the surgeon will carefully reshape the breast tissue and remove any excess skin. Sometimes, breast implants are used when adequate breast tissue is not present.

Typically, incisions are closed using buried, dissolvable stitches to reduce visible scars and increase patient comfort. Depending on the surgical technique, small drain tubes may be placed on each breast to allow excess fluid that builds up where breast tissue was removed during surgery.

Some corrective surgery cases are more complex than others. During corrective breast surgery, nipple corrections, and revisions of previous surgeries, it is not uncommon for our surgeons to perform a combination of procedures to achieve ideal results.

Recovery &
Results

Each person's recovery from breast correction surgery will vary based on the extent of skin and tissue involved and your healing process. A sterile bandage is placed over the incisions following surgery. Your breasts will be wrapped in a supportive bandage or surgical bra. Typically, you can expect to go home within a few hours.

Recovery and discharge instructions depend on the nature of your surgery, but you should plan to have a family member or friend drive you home. Pain and swelling can be managed with medication and ice in the first few days after surgery.

Some patients will go home with small tubes to drain blood and fluid that collect at the surgical site. Care instructions will be included in your discharge paperwork, and drain tubes will be removed in the office during your post-operative visit.

Most patients can resume regular activity within 2-3 weeks. Heavy lifting and strenuous exercise should be avoided for up to 6 weeks. In most cases, the long-term results of breast reduction will be seen in three to six months. However, it can take up to a full year or longer to experience complete healing.
